When I saw that OPI had released a collection inspired by the New York City Ballet, I was ecstatic - or more like, in a fit of happy girly giggles. The little girl who dreamed of being a ballerina-fairy-princess stirred inside of me and I had to have at least one of the beautiful feminine polishes. I picked up "You Callin' Me A Lyre?" - the soft peachy pink colour in the collection.
Now... I have a love-hate relationship with this polish. I tried so, so hard to love this polish. I really wanted it to become my new favourite or make any impression at all on me... but I was left slightly disappointed. The colour in the bottle is so soft and girly - the collection is part of OPI's "Soft Shades" collection so I knew it was going to be sheer and subtle. But it was more than sheer and subtle. It's almost... clear. The colour barely even shows up on my nails and the pictures below are of 4 (FOUR!!) coats. You can still clearly see the whites of my nails, which I expected but .. I guess I didn't expect them to be so drastically visible. The jelly finish on this polish, however, is gorgeous. It's so squishy and shiny and ... beautiful! It looks like my normal nails but... better, or something. It makes me feel put together but not over the top. It reminds me of days when I wear my favourite underwear, and though no one else notices, I feel prettier because of it haha.
Well, here are the four coats of glossy "You Callin' Me a Lyre?". Like I said, I have a love-hate relationship with this polish and though I would never repurchase, it's a little gem in my collection that I don't want to part with. Sigh. I'm such a sucker for all things girly.
